Complete Guitar/Bass Kit Build Class - Aug 22 & 23

This course is the ultimate crash-course in building, repairing, and servicing Guitars and Basses.

The price of the course includes all parts of a guitar or bass kit. We allot 2 days to complete, but depending on the amount of students and which kits we choose, we might get it done over one day.

*Because of the on-going F*nder Lawsuit, many of the companies where I source the good kits from are getting spotty with their offerings and delivery. Please understand I will do my best to provide the kit you request. If for whatever reason they cannot provide them, I will still make sure you have a guitar to build. I have been holding off on offering a build course for a month to try and sort this out, but it's out of anyone's control right now. You'll still get a great instrument! But for this period, please understand you choice isn't guaranteed.*

At the end the course you will go home with an instrument you built yourself!

In this course I will cover a lot of the aspects of guitar building and repair and the theory behind them. Consider it a full dip into the world of Lutherie that will help you start repairing or building instruments on your own! Assembling kit guitars and learning the skills to turn them into great playing, reliable instruments is a fantastic way to get started in this trade. And having an experienced Luthier by your side as you do it is invaluable.

You can choose from a few different styles of kits. The kits come with basic hardware and pickups. You are welcome to bring your own upgrades, or contact us about purchasing them for you and having them ready with your kit. I can source upgraded necks, hardware, pickups, electronics etc.

All kits will let us go through the following:

• Properly fitting a guitar neck (and how to properly shim if necessary)
• Performing fret work (Fret dressing, crowning, fret-end dressing, proper polishing)
• Installing Bridges (fixed and floating Tremolos)
• Making/Modifying Nuts
• Soldering for guitars!
  • Installing Pickups
  • Wiring up potentiometers, jacks, switches
  • Possible wiring mods
• In depth discussions about how certain components and set up techniques affect playability and tone
• Setting up the instrument to play perfectly and tailored to your playstyle

We will also explore other questions and techniques as they are posed or pop up naturally during our builds! 

The price of the course also includes being able to create your own waterslide decals or even using the shop Laser to customize your instrument!

The class is limited to 6 people, to ensure you all get ample time 1 on 1 with me to ask anything you like. 

Class will run from 9am-4pm each day with a break for lunch (not provided)

Because of the obvious time constraints, we will not be doing full paint finishing work on unfinished kits. You will have the option of:

• a simple stain and brush on finish for the body that can be buffed by the second day
• assembling first and adding a light oil finish on the second day
• taking the kit home and painting yourself (you will have all the skills to put it back together!

You can also upgrade to a finished body for Strat and Tele kits - subject to availability.

This course is non-refundable due to the cost in kits and tools and the exclusivity. In circumstances up to my discretion, I may differ a purchased slot to a later date.
